Panties for every occasion
I think Natalie Dee has gone one better than Susie Bright’s “big girl panties,” of which I am also a fan. The beauty of web comics is I can have politics and that demented bunny (and the bunny’s ridiculous underpants!) at the same time. See also Natalie's various I.L.F drawings: D.I.L.F, P.I.L.F, C.I.L.F...
Oddly enough, this panty progress actually mirrors my own politics lately. For several years, I’ve been focussing on personal responsibility as my only sort of activism, and refusing to call it activism. I don’t drive, for example, but I don’t harrass anybody else about fossil fuel pollution. “Put on your big girl panties and deal with it” was a really good motto for that kind of politics. You’re in charge, you work it out on your own, your quality of life is your own job.
For the last couple of months, I’ve been thinking more about institutional responsibility, mostly because I’ve gotten my big environmental priorities under control except for “letter writing.” Personal and consumer actions only go so far, and at some point the big systems have to help, with legal rights or investments in alternative industries or whatever. Impeachin’ panties are the right underwear for that work. Although, we don’t do so much impeachin’ in Canada. I’m in the market for something more along the lines of proportional representation panties.
