sex injuries

The approximate sum of my sex-related injuries:

Friction-related injuries

These are probably the most common type of sexual injury sustained by me. By friction-related I mean any rawness, bleeding, swelling, or overall soreness that results from being rubbed. I mostly notice this in my actual vulval and vaginal areas, but sometimes also on my thighs. Wet sheets seem to rub more violently, and when I sweat a lot I sometimes get raw marks on my spine, hips, knees, elbows, and other boney body parts that are rubbing against the bed. For a couple of weeks one summer, boy was constantly rubbing his knees and elbows to bleeding on the sheets and we couldn't figure out why. Perhaps it was just style. What my vagina feels like when it has been rubbed raw, and what measures can be taken to soothe it and to prevent this in the first place is pretty well covered under soreness in general. Lubrication is also a good thing to read about in this category. Do not underestimate the power of slipperiness.

Injuries related to sado-masochistic pursuits

Slaps, bites, scratches, grabs, being tied, being held down, etc. I don't have too much interest in using tools for this, but I have been known to use my hands and teeth, and the sheets and general environment. This isn't really an injury to avoid, although when getting into more intense beating and fucking, especially involving tools, there are definite safety practices to follow (no whipping on the kidneys, etc). I am not the person to get those safety tips from, but a local bdsm society or website is. (Send me your good links; I know you're out there with your "safe, sane, consensual" stickers).

Other bruising

This most often occurs with sex on hard surfaces (floor, bathtub, counter, wall, etc), or just from over-long contact with boney parts of a lover's body. Boy hip bones can make marks on my thighs if we are fervent enough, and more unfortunately, pubic bones can bruise my vulva in various places if any kind of "grinding" is going on. I'm not so big on the grinding. It's pretty easy to work around, but sometimes the mood just seems to inspire grinding. Too bad.

Tired, stiff muscles

New positions almost always wear me out and can leave me stiff in various places for the next day, because they use muscles in new ways, and can sometimes make sex last longer if their particular nuances are not immediately natural for boy's and my body shapes and general style. Longer sex in general wears me out more. I usually think of this kind of post-coital soreness as less of an injury and more of a workout. In fact, I was going to make a whole page of sex workout tips, but Maxim magazine seems to have beaten me to it and has ruined the novelty a bit. Perhaps the best solution I've heard to workout soreness is to stretch before sex. Such a smart thing to do! This is especially appealing to me today, as I sit here in grimace-inducing pain due to moving furniture without proper stretching and with improper levels of caffeine in my system. Dear dear. Some kind of muscle fatigue might not respond much to stretching, such as the sore neck or jaw that can result from oral sex, but for tummy, legs, arms, chest, back, bum, etc, stretching does great things. More on stretching in a moment.

Twists, sprains, strains, and real injuries

Finally, these injuries are neither intentional nor cute and should really be avoided. Easiest way to avoid these? Stretching and communication! Hooray! Making sure that my lover knows how far it is comfortable to splay my legs apart and how far is uncomfortable can save my hip joints the next day, for example. There is no shame in switching positions due to impending fatigue, says me.
